A Green Smoothie Girl

It's Monday morning. Have I mentioned my morning ritual...I am a green smoothie girl.  Whenever I tell people about my typical breakfast they want to know the recipe for getting 10 or more servings of good green veggies in one drink (and enjoying it). So, I thought I would post the recipe along with some pictures of the green concoction.  If you want more info or to learn some of the benefits of gulping a green smoothie every day, you can check out www.greensmoothiegirl.com.

My Recipe:
Put 1 1/2 cups of water in the bottom of a blender
Add in fresh spinach, kale or other dark leafy greens and blend until it reaches the 3 cup mark (yes, it is a lot of spinach....your body will love you!)
Add in about a cup of frozen fruit (I love strawberries, blueberries and bananas) and blend until smooth and creamy.

For an added treat I sometimes add in some organic yogurt or kefir.  This makes it light and creamy!

This recipe makes 1 quart of green smoothie for only around 150 calories! Love it!
After a few weeks of making my smoothie in a regular old blender, I upgraded to this baby.  I love my BlendTec!  You can generally pick them up at Costco for a pretty good deal.

It may look scary, but I promise, it tastes like a fruit smoothie.

I actually crave my green smoothies. They are so yummy!

$5 Craft Challenge (in just 5 minutes)

I was excited to try my hand at the $5 Craft Challenge on Studio 5. Since my last segment,  I have really been into the "sheet protector" thing, so I decided to make a quick and inexpensive purse album out of a divided sheet protector. The best part about this album is that it cost me around $3 to make!
All you need to create this cute project is:
a sheet protector that is divided into several slots (look for one meant for wallets, slides, or even baseball cards.), Scissors, Paper Trimmer, Adhesive, Ribbon, Anything you want to embellish a cover with.

Just simply cut your sheet protector to the size you want it, slip in your decorated pictures and fold it up like an accordian.

I punched a small hole in the front page to thread my ribbon through so that it would stay attached to the book.

So Simple and Cute!

For the LOVE of LUSH

Well My Mind's Eye, you've done it again. You've taken my crafting heart and run away with it!  I have completely fallen for the new releases by one of my favorite companies.  This January, MME is releasing three new collections: Stella Rose, Good Day Sunshine, and my personal favorite...a new and improved LUSH!

The colors in the new Lush line are so vivid.  I especially love the navy set because it provides a great neutral alternative to the traditional black and brown papers out there.  Although the papers are gorgeous, my favorite piece to the new line has got to be the buttons.  I am always looking for unique buttons to embellish my projects with, and now, I will look no further!

Up and Coming

I love January for many reasons, one of those reasons is the arrival of the CHA trade show in California.  I must admit, I am having withdrawals because for the first time in 5 years, I won't be there.  However, I can still keep tabs on all of the exciting new products that are being released. I have seen some really amazing releases already.  One of my favorites: Graphic 45 "Le Cirque" collection.

You can check out the entire collection by clicking here
It is no secret that I love vintage products.  This collection takes the vintage look to a whole new level.  The colors and images are so pretty, I just can't wait to get my hands on some! I will defintely share my projects when I do.

My Word of 2011

I love words.  Words have a way of bringing thoughts and emotions to the surface.  This year, I wanted to focus on a word that would help me be better in 2011.  I decided that "REMEMBER" was that word. Two thousand and ten was a year of growth for me.  I went through many life changes and found a lot of things that brought me JOY!  This year, I want to remember those things that I learned.  I want to remember the things that bring me happiness, but also, I want to remember the things that don't...and avoid them. With this perspective, I am looking forward to more growth and lessons learned in 2011!

Font Friday-Week 1

This year, I am very excited to introduce Font Friday.  I admit it, I am a font addict.  If there is some kind of Font Recovery Program out there, I should be the president.  I especially love FREE FONTS.  My favorite website for getting free, safe fonts is http://www.dafont.com/.  Each Friday of 2o11, I am going to insert a link for my favorite new font of the week.  Some may be sassy, some formal, some just plain and simple….I guess it will depend on my mood!  Check back each week and by the end of the year, you’ll have a collection of 52 new fonts for your computer.
Week 1- I am constantly looking for happy, scripty fonts to use on my Silhouette cutter.  I love this font because it is clean and simple, and yet it is welded together.

Kleenex Caddies

I am always needing a simple little gift to take to a neighbor or friend to say "thank you" or "thinking of you".
This week, I made up a bunch of these cute and cozy "Kleenex Caddies" to have on hand for just such occasions. I thought this was both cute and practical- since my tissues are always getting mashed up in my purse!

Supplies you will need:
Felt
Pinking Shears
Ribbon
Sewing Machine with contrasting thread color
Package of travel tissues

Instructions:
1. Measure length of tissue package.  With pinking shears, cut the felt to 1" wider than the length.
2. Wrap felt around tissue package and measure the appropriate size.  (you want the felt to wrap completely around the tissue and overlap a little bit.
3. Measure ribbon so that it will tie appropriately around tissue package.
4. Fold over a small flap of the felt and pin ribbon into place.
5. With your sewing machine, sew around entire edge of felt (sewing ribbon into seams)
6. Tuck in your tissue package and give away with love!

A Few of My Favorite Things

Don’t we all have those certain things we just couldn’t live without?  Well, maybe we could live without a few of them, but we certainly wouldn’t want to.  I thought I would take a few minutes to note some of MY FAVORITE THINGS.  What are your top 5 favorites? I would love to read your comments on this one (plus, I want to try out your faves!).
On my completely random, non crafting list, I’ve got:
Boots, Herbal Teas, BBC Movies, Almond Butter and My Smart Phone
On the more important crafting list:
1. ColorBox Chalk Inks- These handy dandy tools fall in at #1 for so many reasons.  Not only is the price right ($1.99), but they are also made in a variety of colors (my go-to being Chestnut Roan).  I am always impressed by how much adding ink to the edges of a project really makes it pop.  Couldn’t live without these babies!
We R Memory Keepers 70907 Crop-A-Dile Eyelet & Snap Punch2. We-R Memory Keepers Cropadile-It is hard for me to imagine life without my cropadile.  How did I ever punch holes in metal or chipboard before I had this?  I love the versatility and durability of this fun tool.  It is great for crafting and non crafting projets alike.
We R Memory Keepers 71000-4 Cinch Bindery Tool
3. We-R Memory Keepers Cinch- It is no secret that I am a mini-book fanatic.  Without my Cinch, I would be completely lost.  I love the flexibility of this hole punching and binding tool.  My favorite feature- that you can turn holes off or on to create custom bindings.
Scor-Tape: 1/4 inch4. Scor-Tape- Some of my favorite crafting friends turned me onto this miracle working adhesive.  I love things to stick and stick some more, so when I started working with Scor-Tape, I got addicted very easily.  I love this tape for putting together boxes and attaching ribbon.  It holds better than any other adhesive that I have tried, plus it is tearable…so it is simple to use.  I also love that it comes in a variety of widths.

Silhouette SD5. Silhouette Digital Cutter- Last (but certainly not least) is my Silhouette Digital Cutter.  I admit it, I am a computer junky, and I love that my Silhouette interfaces directly with my computer for easy manipulation.  I love the fact that I can download any true type font and cut it out of any paper just minutes later. Overall, I just love this tool!
